A HISTORIC TREASURE of early Western culture can be experienced when you visit the historic Santa Maria Valley and the GUY B.WOODWARD MUSEUM. Located in Ramona, a rural country town, 37 miles East of downtown San Diego, this complex of historic buildings; including the famous Verlaque House, shops, wagons, antique exhibits and special artifacts, will delight the entire family.


THE VERLAQUE HOUSE is the only Western adobe home of French provincial design still in existence.

  • ANTIQUE AND PERIOD FURNITURE can be enjoyed in the rural setting of this 1886 home.
  • TURN OF THE CENTURY DOCTOR'S OFFICE will be included in your tour of the home.
  • 1840 HAND CARVED WALNUT BEDROOM SET that once belonged to the family who founded Yale University graces an elegant bedroom.
  • OPEN HEARTH KITCHEN captures the bustle of a bygone era.
  • LIBRARY AND RESEARCH CENTER richly stocked with documents, photos, oral and written autobiographies and books of important local history about the pioneers, ranchers, cowboys, Indians and merchants who settled the area.

CASEY TIBBS MEMORIAL EXHIBIT dedicated to the World Champion rodeo rider. The Guy B. Woodward Museum has been selected by the Cowboy's Hall of Fame as the exhibit center for the memorial to Casey Tibbs, who was a local resident.

COWBOY BUNK HOUSE, RANCH BLACKSMITH SHOP AND TACK ROOM, built in 1874; wagons, a surrey, and the famous Medicine Wagons; farm implements and tools aid other exhibits to increase your enjoyment and understanding of this era.

THE BANCROFT MEMORIAL ROSE GARDEN will delight our visitors who enjoy sitting and relaxing amidst beautiful plants and flowers.

AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF WOMEN'S CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES, exquisitely displayed in the museum's dregs and millinery ship, gives you a close up view and appreciation of the history of women's fashions

INDIAN ARTIFACTS, HISTORICAL EXHIBITS, RARE DOCUMENTS, BOOKS, AND PHOTOS AND A RESEARCH LIBRARY have received widespread acclaim from historians and scholars who now use the complex for research and study.

Ramona's own Guy B. Woodward Museum is open to the public. If you are interested in the Old West and/or the history of Ramona (once known as the "Turkey Capital of the World") spend an afternoon looking around this wonderful hometown museum.
